Navy at Southern Methodist
When: 3:30 PM ET, Saturday, November 26, 2016
Where: Gerald J. Ford Stadium, Dallas, Texas

Navy will try to move a step closer to hosting the American Athletic Conference championship game when it visits SMU on Saturday afternoon. The Midshipmen already secured the West Division with a 66-31 win at East Carolina last weekend but there are a boatload of scenarios that need to be played out before the site of the title game is determined.

A win would increase the chances of the contest being played at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium one week before the annual clash with rival Army in Baltimore. Quarterback Will Worth had four more rushing touchdowns in the victory over the Pirates and his 22 scores on the ground leave him tied for first nationally with Boise State's Jeremy McNichols. The Midshipmen senior star will test a Mustangs squad that ranks ninth in the AAC in total defense (439.6 yards) and allowed 278 rushing yards in a 35-27 loss to South Florida last Saturday. SMU is looking to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2012.

TV: 3:30 p.m. ET, ESPNU. LINE: Navy -7

ABOUT NAVY (8-2, 6-1 AAC): Worth had six rushing TDs in the first five games of the season but has 16 in the last five, during which he has averaged 157.2 yards on the ground. His nine pass completions over the past two weeks have gone for 224 yards as senior Jamir Tillman (four catches, 122 yards in the two games) has been a big-play option. Shawn White chipped in 150 rushing yards and three TDs against East Carolina as the nation's third-ranked rushing outfit recorded 480.

ABOUT SMU (5-6, 3-4): The Mustangs amassed 578 total yards and possessed the ball for more than 36 minutes against USF, but three turnovers - two on interceptions thrown by Ben Hicks - hurt the cause. Hicks has been intercepted an AAC-high 13 times, although nine came in the first five games. Sophomore Braeden West rumbled for 120 yards in the loss to USF and needs 12 more to reach 1,000 for the season.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Mustangs WR Courtland Sutton had a school-record 252 receiving yards against USF and he boasts 25 catches for 418 yards and four TDs in the last two games.

2. Navy is 17-3 under coach Ken Niumatalolo in the months of November and December over the last four years.

3. The Midshipmen have won the last six meetings, including a 55-14 victory at home in 2015.
